I adore up close, macro, photography. Further more, I love your shot here. It's near perfect in terms of composition. The only downside is that the plain truth is that it's not really original and it's not something that's making a point or stating some kind of vision.
That being said, back to the point that this is nearly perfectly composed. Your background colors are, by themselves, impressive. Your subject matter is creative and thoughtful - the perfect, unique time to photograph whatever shrub or bush this is (they're in my front yard and I have no idea what they're called, haha). The texture is wonderful. The one flaw that I have to point out is that I feel like you really should have moved farther to the right... I love the background, but I feel like I'm seeing way too much of it. The focus in the horizontal perspective is good though.
Overall, I see this photo and I think of life. I think of new life, continuing life, and the tenacity of the living to continue on. And that is exactly what any photographer hopes for, a shot that makes people think. A shot that stops people in their tracks. And you've done just that. Congrats!
